We had the good fortune of connecting with Scott West and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Scott, what do you attribute your success to?
My father, Ed West, is a trained mechanical engineer who worked on airplane jet engines, semi-trucks, and military equipment. His attention and intense focus on detail comes from that background. In that career a missed detail could put lives on the line. He brought that high standard to home building when he started West Construction in 1986, When asked what our brand is -what we are known for -I can say, above all else our reputation is for detail and quality. That can mean something different to everyone, I believe it comes down to four key elements. I mean detail on all levels, From the billing and timeline to job site cleanliness to the finished home. It’s attention to detail during construction that prevents problems later. We want our homes to stand the test of time. The subcontractors we use are high quality. Some we have worked with for over 30 years. These long-term relationships with the best craftsmen and tradesmen in our area is something we are very proud of. There is a true respect. Everyone deserves to be treated with honesty and fairness.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
West Construction has a highly regarded reputation of quality custom built homes in some of the most renown neighborhoods and private communities of Paradise Valley, Arcadia, and North Scottsdale. Versed in traditional, contemporary, and transitional home building methods and passionate about paying attention to extraordinary details that create dramatic results. The focus is on fitting your lifestyle and providing you with a gratifying building experience.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Old Town Scottsdale is a great area. Thursdays near Marshall way all the art gallery’s open from 7-9 and its fun to immerse yourself and walk around downtown enjoying the atmosphere. While you are in Old Town Scottsdale go to dinner at The Mission, try their Primerita and make sure you order the table side Guacamole. If their desserts aren’t your thing head around the corner to the Sugar Bowl Restaurant, it opened in 1958 and still has its original Soda Fountain bar you can sit at. They have all sorts of sodas, ice creams, malts, and related desserts. A great weekend trip would be up to Sedona in the fall. There are tons of hiking trails where you can enjoy the changing seasons. I recommend staying at the L’Auberge de Sedona if its within your budget or a special occasion, its right on the creek and only a couple minute walk into downtown. Their lodge rooms are cozy and it feels like your staying in a cabin, or splurge for a creekside cabin with the family. Even if you can’t stay at the resort their creekside restaurant is a must for drinks and dinner.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
A big shoutout to the team of experienced and talented tradesmen I work with every day. We’ve been together for many years and their dedication and commitment to their craft has my complete respect. Most importantly I want to recognize and give credit to my father Ed West. He taught me that there is a big difference between building a house and creating a home and to embrace that difference by personally being involved in every project and by listening to the homeowners. These standards are my foundation and you’d be surprised as to how many daily decisions those two guiding principles influence. In many ways, it is what sets us apart.
